It gives much greater precision and supports 90/180/270/360/520/720/900 steering wheel turn ranges. Steering wheel option 2 DS4Windows application has a new "steering wheel emulation" configuration option which is specifically meant to be used as a steering wheel alternative. Nowadays there is a better way to do this (see steering wheel option 2). However, using raw values of tilting sensor directly is very limited in turn range and in precision, so this option may not be very useful with serious racing games. In that case remember to unmap the default mapping of LX axis to avoid conflicting values (or set big enough deadzone to LX to avoid it double feeding the output axis). You can use, for example, left stick X axis (LX) as an output axis. These settings have been tested in the game DiRT Showdown. Following settings have been found that get the experience pretty close though. Steering wheel option 1 Map sixaxis X tilting as a left or right stick. There are nowadays actually two ways to use DS4 and DS4Windows app as a steering wheel. Using the accelerometer built into the DS4, it is possible to play racing and other driving games by holding the DS4 so the lightbar is pointing up towards the ceiling and tilting the DS4 to each side like it were a steering wheel. If you use "Hide DS4 Controller" option or HidGuardian tool to hide the physical DS4 controller from games then do not enable this option because then you would not have any gamepad controllers (the physical gamepad controller is hidden but because this option is enabled DS4Windows app won't open a virtual gamepad controller either). If you want to use any of those DS4 controller key remaps or LS/RS output curve modifiers then this option should be disabled (=unchecked) because the virtual output device is required to do those fancy DS4 key/stick output modifications on the fly. DS4Windows app won't do any gamepad key re-maps with LS/RS/Triangle/Cross/Square/outputCurves and so on). Games can use the native physical DS4 controller directly and DS4Windows app will output only keyboard and mouse related key mappings (ie. When this option is enabled then DS4Windows app won't create a virtual output controller. So, it's not as if the PS4 controller isn't connected. When using a fully KB+M configuration in a profile, you can enable Use DInput only option. I'm confident that the DS4 software is working just fine because moving my finger across the PS4 controller's touchscreen moves the mouse cursor on my PC. Having done all of these things, I restarted my PC. I enabled "Hide DS4 Controller" on DS4Windows.Ĭlicked the DS4 Updater application, only to be notified that everything is up to date. I've connected my PS4 controller via Bluetooth and through a USB cable. On DS4, using a different profile (entitled "N64 Format"), I set "Square" on the controller to "C" on the keyboard then, with "Plugged" on and "XInput" off, I set "B" under "Buttons" to "Keyboard: C". I then started up the application again, went back to the controller input settings, and clicked "Use". With either option for which "XInput" was enabled, I clicked the "Save" button in the bottom-right of "Controller 1" (as opposed to the bottom row of the window), which automatically closed off Project64. I also tried this with "XInput" on and "Plugged" off - neither worked. For example, in DS4 I have "Square" on the PS4 controller set as "X Button" for the Xbox 360 controller it's emulating then with both "Plugged" and "XInput" enabled, I set "X" under "XInput" to "B" under "N64". In the "Input Settings" option, I've tried different combinations of "XInput" and "Plugged" - one on/one off, both on - and matched the DS4Windows and Project64 inputs so that they would correspond to each other. I did this for both Project64 and the specific game ROM (Majora's Mask randomizer seed). Started up Project64 3.-2df3434, clicked Options > Configuration, then clicked "Plugins", "Input (Controller) Plugin", selected "N-Rage Input V2 2.3c", and clicked "Apply". Installed NRage, saved the plugin file ("NRage_Input_V2.dll", excluding quotation marks) under C:\Program Files (x86)\Project64 3.0\Plugin\Input (I also have "PJ64_NRage.dll" and "Project64-Input.dll", without quotation marks, in that subfolder). Turned on DS4Windows, set up a configuration entitled "Xbox 360 Default Controller", which is exactly what it sounds like - the default settings for a DS4 profile, with no keys changed or anything.
